Flygresa från New York till Miami
Torsdagen fick bli The Beatles resdag från snöiga New York till soliga Miami i Florida. De lämnade New York med National Airlines flygning nr 11 kl. 13.30. De kom fram till Miamis flygplats kl 16.00.
The Beatles möttes av 7 000 Beatlesfans, som hade blivit informerade om beatlarnas ankomst av de lokala radiostationerna WFUN och WQAM.
Efter att ha landat åkte beatlarna i en konvoj bestående av tre limousiner till Deauville Hotel i Miami. Runt bilarna ledde motorcykelförare konvojen under den cirka 1,2 mil långa resan in till hotellet. Utmed vägen stod det massor av fans.
Grabbarna gick direkt upp till sina respektive hotellrum. Senare var det dags för ännu en presskonferens, vilken ägde rum på hotellet.
Paul McCartney minns: Miami was like paradise. We had never been anywhere where there were palm trees. We were real tourists; we had our Pentax cameras and took a lot of pictures. I’ve still got a lot of photos of motorcycle cops with their guns. We’d never seem a policeman with a gun, and those Miami cops did look pretty groovy. We had a great time there.
Med på resan från New York till Miami hade de också sällskap av DJ Murray the K, som lyckades prata in sig så att han fick dela rum med George Harrison på hotellet.
George Harrison: I’ve often wondered how Murray could barge into the room and hang out with us for the entire trip. It’s funny, really. I never quite understood how he did that.
På kvällen gick The Beatles till the Mau Mau Lounge för att se The Coasters uppträda. Sedan tog Murray the K med beatlarna till the Miami Peppermint Lounge för att se Hank Ballard and the Midnighters.
